LETS GET READY TO RUUUMMMMBLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEESLAM!
Hello there rookies and veterans alike and welcome to WIP Wednesday. Today we travel to the rambunctious realm of Rumbleslam.
We’ve just celebrated the launch of the Furry Fury’s cousins the Rotten Rodents, and the Feral Den received a whole batch of Superstar reinforcement. But Diamond Oasis players might be wondering where their Superstars are. They’ve had a few, but there’s surely more to come, right?
YES!
Today we’re going to be looking at just one new wrestler who is hanging out in the back of Diamond Oasis (probably under some fancy Rostani rugs). Introducing Tin Khan!
Concept
The process and progress of Tin Khan is what we will focus on today, keep the rest for a rainy day.
We decided that Tin Khan would be a mechanical golem, infused with the spirit of a deadly RUMBLESLAM fighter. With than in mind, Rei set to work, making some initial concepts.
We don’t always get it right the first time round (in fact, we rarely do) and we like to do some experimenting before choosing the final character. Our artist Rei is an absolute veteran when it comes to character development and creation.
After the first batch we decided that the Tin Khan needed to be much, much bigger. We wanted him to look hulking and slow rather than small and lithe. The long legs on the ones above helped add some height, but made him look a little too sleek. We wanted something that looked giant and old.
The Sheikh has been chosen
Once we had chosen our favourite version to represent Tin Khan, we tested out a few colour schemes that might work with him. This took a fair few tries but we made our choice and we’re sticking with it!
The Details
One thing that was particularly tricky with Tin Khan was his size. How do we take a character essentially made up of metal panelling a bit more interesting without too many large flat surfaces?
The answer was to take off his back panel to show the workings. This is a clockwork golem, and we wanted to show all the gears and cogs. The colour artwork is lovely and looks amazing on the RUMBLESLAM cards, but sometimes we need a little more reference material for the sculptors. This one involved Rei drawing a sketch based on a silly little 3D mock-up. The pink layer will be sculpted into the model, and the blue layer (in theory) will slot on top to give more depth to the workings. We’ll have to wait and see if it works out!
The Final
This is Tin Khan in all his metallic glory. Truly fearsome opponent for any wrestler and not to be underestimated. One slap from that hand and you will be sent back to last week crying to yo mamma!
That’s it for this week. Be sure to keep an eye on the TTCombat webstore
so you don’t miss out on this hero coming to a RUMBLESLAM ring near you.
