The Municipium sector used to provide ample housing for citizens and then the London Grand Tournament needed terrain. Now it’s home to ghosts and constant fighting.

Welcome to this week’s Monday Motivation and today we’ve got some amazingly painted/constructed terrain from Chris B. Now Chris was kind enough to send us multiple photos and a brief description of how he managed to create such good-looking buildings, ideal for Sci-Fi wargames. Made from our Municipium Board Bundle 2021, we hope you enjoy this build.

This is some great-looking terrain! Chris and his little assistant have done a fantastic job taking our MDF kit and pushing it the extra mile. What’s even more impressive is that Chris is still relatively new to Tabletop Wargames and yet he’s created a fund space to use. We’ll excuse the GW miniatures as we can’t all be Venetian heroes running around Venice in Carnevale.

Just look at the detail! whilst building this pretty large pack of buildings, Chris wanted to add more details than those available on the standard kit. Using a hobby knife, he cut chunks into straight edges to create stonework effect. Additionally scoring scratches in the walls to simulate cracks was a great idea and can be seen above. Additionally, Chris has applied texture paint and a mix of sand plus PVA glue along the edges of the walls gave a pretty realistic broken concrete effect.

Adding some focal interest was a great idea that was really important to Chris. Using green tea mixed with PVA glue made the Ivy effect whilst sterilized garden Roots as vines was genius. As everyone will be able to see, the buildings are painted to a high standard using his daughter’s cheap craft paints before applying some tufts in corners and edges. In the office, we loved how all of these small details came together to make a good-looking finished product.

Excusing the unknown small miniature atop the walls, in this picture you can see a great size comparison of the terrain. Personally I’m a big fan of reusing the MDF sprues as extra pieces of building materials or battle damage.
