Right now it’s an exciting time for fans of the Commander Universe. While everyone here at TTCombat is recouping from the enormous effort to release Dropfleet 2.0, a devoted TTAgent has been plotting. Through the efforts of Gareth and the amazing team at Firestorm Games, Dropfleet Commander is on track for its biggest event ever. Of course, we’re talking about Weapons Free 4, the upcoming event in Cardiff on the 9th of November.

Weapons Free:
Hailing all Admirals. My name is Gareth, and I’m the Event Organiser and one of the TO’s for the Weapons Free event series. A long-time supporter of Dropfleet Commander since its inception, a general Sci-Fi enthusiast and dedicated to drawing more attention to what I believe is the most underrated wargame (never mind naval wargame) on the market right now.
The Rise of a Community-Driven Dropfleet Commander Event Series

From a humble beginning with just eight players one year ago, (big props to you fine gentlemen) Weapons Free has grown into one of the most anticipated community-driven events for Dropfleet Commander fans in recent memory. With 46 players already onboard for the next event on November 9th, 2024, and only 4 tickets remaining, we’re on the verge of a sold-out event, and possibly the biggest DFC event ever! We couldn’t be more excited!
A Year in the Making:
What started as a grassroots event has now become a cornerstone of the Dropfleet Commander community. Weapons Free was born from the dedication and passion of a few players, and over time, it has evolved into a fully-fledged event series that caters to both veterans and newcomers alike. The series provides an environment where Admirals of all skill levels can meet, compete, and engage in the rich and tactical universe of Dropfleet Commander.
The series initially began with a focus on competitive gameplay, but as the game continues to evolve and grow, so has Weapons Free. This quarter’s event takes a bold new direction, shifting to a Narrative format; a perfect opportunity for players of all experience levels to battle it out in a more story-driven, immersive environment. With the new edition of Dropfleet Commander on the
horizon, this narrative event is an excellent equalizer, putting players on similar ground as they explore the game’s evolving mechanics and strategic possibilities.
Classification Unknown:
Aka: Weapons Free 4. The November 9th event is shaping up to be the biggest Weapons Free event yet. Hosted at Firestorm Games in Cardiff, the event has already attracted 46 players, with room for more thanks to the incredible support of the Firestorm team. They’ve given us the green light to increase the cap beyond the original 16 player threathsold to a whopping 50 due to popular demand. So if you haven’t secured your spot yet and what to be part of potentially the biggest DFC event to record, now’s the time!
This event offers more than just a series of epic battles, it’s a chance to connect with like-minded players, forge alliances, and immerse yourself in the rich lore of Dropfleet Commander through narrative-driven scenarios. There are a slew of fantastic prizes to be won across the event for achieving hidden objectives, allowing all players and equal opportunity to earn rewards regardless of skill or performance. Plus, we’ve got something extra special in store this time…

That’s right Admirals, game designer Dave Lewis himself will be attending the event! Dave is excited to witness first hand the incredible enthusiasm and passion the community has brought to Dropfleet Commander. His presence will give players the unique opportunity to engage with the creator, ask questions, and maybe even glean some insider tips about the game’s future
direction. It’s a rare chance to meet the mind behind the game and share your experiences with the person who has helped shape the universe we all love.
Dave has also kindly agreed to be the Judge for the Best Painted Miniature Award! So bring your best dressed mini, whether it’s seeing play or not!
What Do I Need?
All you need is access to a fleet with a 1000 points in value, access to the rules, dice, tokens and measuring tape. It doesn’t have to all be painted, just come on down and get some games in!
The Story so Far: Event Primer
From the ever-enigmatic Post-Human Republic (PHR), suspicions grow regarding the true nature of the Bioficers. The PHR has increasingly turned its attention to the systems gas giant Ixbalanque and its four habitable moons, Tlalocan-1, Tlalocan-2, Tlalocan-3, and Tlalocan-4, believing they may hold the key to the origins of these horrific entities. The Bioficers, while still shrouded in mystery, are theorized to be a long-abandoned weapon; a degenerate and corrupted artificial intelligence that has survived well beyond the death of its creators.
Once a proud tool of war, the Bioficers now exist as a twisted force, harvesting biological matter to create sentient abominations and drone armies, relentlessly expanding their reach. The more combat they experience, the stronger and more efficient they become, adapting with each encounter. It is rumored that the system’s ‘listening stations,’ scattered across the moons, act as an ancient form of ‘intruder alarm,’ their presence perhaps even responsible for the Bioficers’ renewed aggression. The PHR theorizes that the increasing activity in the Tlalocan system has drawn the Bioficers, seeking new competition to challenge their combat abilities.
While none of this is officially confirmed, and much of it is based on speculative intelligence, the PHR’s occupation of the Tlalocan system is ongoing. Only Tlalocan-2 remains habitable with active PHR control, serving as a naval base, shipyard, and research hub. The sprawling city on this moon is a rare oasis of order and purpose amidst the chaos of the other moons.
The remaining moons, however, tell a darker tale. Tlalocan-1, Tlalocan-3, and Tlalocan-4 are littered with the ruins of forgotten civilizations. The ruins hide valuable relics, data that could prove key in confirming the PHR’s theories and unraveling the secrets of the Bioficers’ origins. Yet, the risk is great: long-dormant automated defenses, remnants of the ancient empires that once thrived here, are scattered across the moon surfaces, ready to activate at the slightest provocation.
For the PHR, this system represents both an opportunity and a dire threat. Their theories remain unproven, but if they are correct, the Bioficers may not be a mindless scourge, but a highly adaptive force, measuring themselves against the galaxy’s strongest combatants—an enemy capable of evolving with every engagement.
The question remains: Will the PHR’s research unearth vital data to confirm their suspicions? Or will they awaken more than they bargained for in the dark, hollow moons of Tlalocan? The stakes have never been higher as explorers, combatants, and pioneers alike venture deeper into the Tlalocan system, hoping to solve its mysteries before it consumes them.
