Dropfleet Commander Exclusive Ships

Back from the old Kickstarter abyss comes some vintage ships. No longer confined to the Hawk Wargames Kickstarter from 9 long years ago, we’re bringing back the exclusive Battlecruisers. The reason behind this? Since its initial launch, Dropfleet Commander has continued to grow substantially with numerous commanders joining the fight post Kickstarter and now feels like the right time to give these players a chance to get hold of these elusive ships.

UCM Atlantis

The UCMS Atlantis was the first modern battlecruiser constructed by the UCM and was a testbed for development, sharing some common parts with cruisers. She was designed for battleship-level firepower and cruiser-level speed at the expense of survivability. The primary mission of Atlantis would be to hunt down lesser ships and destroy them quickly in flanking and interdiction operations.

UCM Avalon

The UCMS Avalon was constructed as part of the battlecruiser testbed program as the UCMS Atlantis’ sister ship. Launched 10 years into the program in 2649, she differed from her sister by replacing the primary mass driver turret battery with an enormous Viper super-heavy anti-ship laser, still one of the largest weapons ever to be mounted to a UCM ship. This colossal armament took up almost half the ship’s length and was also a testbed in itself and the first of its kind.

Scourge Basilisk

The Basilisk is likely one of the oldest types of Scourge cruiser-based ships in service with the enemy. During the original Scourge invasion, they were feared above all other threats due to their combination of speed, heavy firepower and ability to mask their own energy spikes.

The last attribute is the most crucial, enabled by its massive cloaking crest – the most effective of its kind in the Scourge navy. These qualities made the class the pre-eminent cause of civilian shipping loss, mostly unfortunate souls fleeing the carnage or poorly defended supply vessels, annihilated far too quickly for any response.

Shaltari Adamant

The Adamant and Ruby class battlecruisers are highly potent vessels designed for maximum firepower in a fast, sleek package. Both classes are excellent interdiction vessels, superlative in the arts of flanking sweeps and the annihilation of enemy supply convoys behind the lines. They feature battleship-level firepower in a fast package which can keep up with cruisers, making them popular command ships for missions that require speed above toughness. However, they lack a battleship’s ability to take punishment, requiring dexterity, restraint and opportunistic aggression in equal measure from their captains.

PHR Leonidas

The Leonidas and Agamemnon are two fearsome battlecruisers of equivalent capability, the latter being more common. Perhaps the Leonidas is built in a smaller shipyard or different planet to the Agamemnon, although that is mere speculation, since little is known about the PHR home planets. Both ships feature awesome firepower, in some ways exceeding that of a UCM battleship, should a captain be in a position to unleash both of their ruinous broadsides to full and disastrous effect.

Now, it wouldn’t be fair to leave out latest Dropfleet factions from the Battlecruiser fun.

Bioficer Styx

Although all Bioficer sightings are rare, if increasing, certain ship classes have only been observed once. The sole record of the fearsome Styx class comes from the mangled tertiary flight recorder of the battleship UCMS Bellaque. She was lost with all hands in the Eden system; only an atomic cloud and cored-out hull fragments remained—the work of the fearsome Decon Annihilator, the Styx’s colossal primary weapon.

The Styx seems to have similar capabilities to the Stature class, but utilises an enlarged, novel hull more closely related to Bioficer cruisers. Some believe this vessel was unique, casting further doubt on the old notion that the Bioficers lack individuality. This ship may have been commissioned by a characteristic intelligence. Behaviour suggests individual pleasures, whims, and particular cruelties—a worrying confirmation of this race’s apparent personal delight in violence and other’s suffering.

Resistance Vicarius

While the Senator class battlecruiser was an abhorrent and unsanctioned creation of certain paranoid admirals, EAAS Vicarius was downright infamous. She was once the sole example of her class and, it is now understood, instrumental in the Cleansing of Wolfrum. In 2495, twelve years before the Scourge invasion, the mining colony of Wolfrum rebelled, violently. Soon, an unknown vessel of battlecruiser tonnage appeared above the capital and unleashed a spread of VX gas bombardment munitions, slaughtering the entire population.

No comment was made by the military and the government vehemently denied involvement. Senior individuals were executed in the following years, often for crimes that should have warranted prison sentences. EAAS Vicarious next appeared as a loner in 2674, her decks cold with a sparse skeleton crew. Her senior officers had apparently boarded another human vessel and had not returned. Now, in 2679, new examples of her class have been spotted amongst Kalium’s sinister vanguard fleets.
